Gothic dancehall alchemist Gaika finally drops Spaghetto, the first chapter in his newly minted place in the ranks of Warp, alongside the label's new wave of urbanite producers transforming street sounds into raw, genre-shredding new shapes.

Gaika's debut 8 trk EP for Warp may be his first full solo release to be cut into wax, but it already feels like he is a producer who has carved out a place in the top steps of the game. His two previous released recordings, the self-released rugged RNG of Machine & the Mixpack special Security (that really showcased his talents at rolling a beat for MC's such as Trigga, Serocee & Miss Red) saw him grace the cover of Wire's June 2016 issue.

Spaghetto builds on his magnetic pallette, but adds a strong vocal element that stands it as a sort of trap Maxinquaye produced by The Bug. Opener Neophyte perfectly intros the release with the acidic weaponized bells that chime in is fight for the individual to remain free. Each track displays a different side to Gaika, from the chewed-up jaw of broken glass rap that spits raw on Glad We Found It to the tough dancehall wares of 3D. Before closer Roadside ends things on a sharp edge that threatens to erode the disc as it finishes.

Spaghetto is a seriously strong debut and marks out Gaika as a truly cutting edge artist in every sense of the word.
